Amsterdam drowning in canal while on MDMA claims life of tourist
Recreational drugs are believed to be safer than alcohol by those that do them, but when one reads a headline like Amsterdam drowning in canal while on MDMA, it’s a reminder that any substance abuse can have dire consequences.
Jordan Dunn was 23-years-old.
Holiday is a time of relaxation, merriment and for many young people, partying. This is what Southampton brothers set out to do while in Amsterdam, land of high quality and potent MDMA.
Sadly, this holiday time of merriment turned morbid when 23-year-old Jordan Dunn drowned in the Amsterdam canal after being separated by his brother earlier in the evening of partying and taking MDMA.
Reports state that Jordan began demonstrating “strange” behavior after getting separated from his brother. Witnesses detailed how Jordan became unaware of his surroundings and was acting confused before they saw him jump in the water.
Unfortunately, he was under water for 6 to 7 minutes before being removed and rushed to VU University Medical Center in Amsterdam.
Irreversible damage
Because Jordan was underwater for such an extended period, he suffered irreversible brain damage, and sadly doctors were unable to save his life.
As for the Winchester Corner report, they were unable to accurately pinpoint the levels of intoxicants in his body. This was due to the amount of time he spent at the hospital and the length of time it took to send his body back to the UK.
As for Jordan’s reason for jumping into the canal one can only speculate. Knowledge of the effects of MDMA lead one to believe he felt hot and overwhelmed and wanted to cool off in the canal. Unfortunately, he looked past the danger to feel relief.
Jordan’s family was there during the inquest, holding a large portrait of their dearly departed. His Aunt Lesley said that Jordan was like a son to her. She walked out before the inquest concluded.
One can’t underestimate the effects a substance will have on you, so take precaution and make sure you rave safe.
RIP Jordan Dunn, our thoughts are with his family and friends. This Amsterdam drowning may have been bit of a freak occurrence but one should always be careful.
