Amputee Philip Tucker aims to set world record for dancing, for charity
Amputee Philip Tucker is going to dance heart out, for charity.
Philip Tucker has been an avid dancer since before the bike accident that took his leg in 2011. A man with ambition, Philip was back on his bike after 10 months and now has a new goal- to set the world record for longest dance with a prosthetic leg.
To set the record, he will attempt to dance non-stop for 9 hours and in doing so he will raise money for charity.
Tucker has never let his prosthetic legs get ‘in the way’ of him following his passion, speaking to Kent Online he said:
“There aren’t that many people with two legs who put as much energy into dancing as I do over the course of an evening. I thought there must be something worthwhile in setting the record.”
The Celebration of dance
Although obtaining a world record would be great, Tucker is mainly focussed on raising money for the Kenward Trust, a charity organisation specialising in rehabilitation of those seeking treatment for substance abuse.
Inspiration comes from Tucker’s friend, a recovering heroin addict who received treatment from the organization.
The world record attempt falls on Tucker’s 50th birthday and Kenward Trust’s 50th anniversary:
“My plan is to set up a little festival in the courtyard outside the Royal Albion. It is a nice spot for a mini festival and people can enjoy it. If I set up eight or nine hours of music then I can see how long I can dance for. I need to have a way of measuring how much energy I use because you submit the evidence to Guinness World Records and they decide whether or not to grant it.”
We wish amputee Philip Tucker an energetic playlist to keep him dancing until he sets a record.
