Afrotainment gets a reality show on Mzansi Magic
Afrotainment by DJ Tira will have its own reality show on Mnet. The concept of the show will revolve around what it takes to build and manage Afrotainment as a company.
This month you will have the opportunity to get a sneak peek into what it takes to make Afrotainment what it is. And more importantly what goes into the process of releasing musical hits after hits.
The show will be titled Ezase Afro: The Empire and follows DJ Tira real name Mthokozisi Khathi around. You will get a personal view into the daily goings on of the DJ/entrepreneur. The show promises to bring you highlights and stories from his friendships and family, how he deals with the pressures of fame, his jet set lifestyle, making corporate deals, attending his gigs, his work in the studio, the inner workings of his tours, and the never ending deadlines.
“Personality-driven reality television continues to draw consistently high ratings across the world, and in South Africa that trend is also evident. The audience wants to share in the experiences of famous individuals whose lives are interesting, dynamic and evolving. Locally, DJ Tira is one of this country’s most versatile stars and viewers will get the chance to see just why he is talented, popular and successful.” Says M-Net Director of Local Interest Channels, Nkateko Mabaso of the new local reality TV show
For DJ Tira and Afrotainment fans this could make for quite an entertaining and perhaps educational show. However, with reality TV there always seems to be some kind of trade off for those involved. For DJ Tira’s sake let’s assume that the show is intended to and continues to tell the story of a local artist and his work, while not actually becoming a ratings hungry drama about his life in the end.
The Afrotainment Ezase Afro: The Empire reality TV show will air this Thursday on the 14th of January 2016 at 20:00 on Mzansi Magic.
