Afrojack steps out of EDM to take a walk on the Techno side of life
Afrojack plans to make techno this year.
In 2007, an infectious track took control of dance floors the world over.
It is called “Take Over Control” and it was made by a Dutch producer named Afrojack and features Eva Simons. This track, which can be remembered from house parties and clubs alike, solidified Afrojack as an EDM powerhouse.
He has since collaborated with artists such as Pitbull, Beyonce (Girls), Madonna and fellow EDM giant David Guetta. Body rocker, chart topper Afrojack has made top 10 Dj lists and graced the stages of the biggest EDM festivals the world has to offer such as Tomorrowland, Mysteryland and Ultra. In 2016, he wowed audiences at Ultra South Africa.
Techno-ver Control
In recent times Afrojack has been moving away from the EDM scene to frolic in the fields of Techno. He says that he has been “doing a lot of techno stuff with friends.” One of these friends is Techno producer Benny Rodrigues with whom he even performed a back to back techno set with at Mysteryland in 2016.
Afrojack is clearly very keen to move away from the EDM ‘stigma’ and create something fresh.
In our interview with him in 2014 before his show at Ultra SA he was asked about the flooding of EDM artists and whether it would kill the genre.
He said “That’s only going to happen if the main leaders of this culture are going to put out shit. When they get lazy, there’s always shit. The best place to see it is in rock ‘n’ roll. It kept evolving and evolving, and then at one point there came pop rock bands and the essence changed.” This explains his whole evolutionary thought as an artist.
He is set to release techno singles this year and hopefully solidify himself as a techno contender. So, watch this space!
I wonder if he will create a new alias- maybe Afrojackeded? Technojack? Afrotech? Exciting times ahead!
