The annual AFRIMMA 2016 awards show celebrated another year of African music and all those that make the African scene a thriving continental industry and an exciting addition to the international scene. The AFRIMMA awards ceremony is unique in the way that it is for Africans and by Africans.
The hosts were chosen on the basis of popularity and of course the main languages spoken in Africa, English, French, and Arabic. On Friday they hosted an AFRIMMA Music Village to kick off the weekend. The concert was a non-stop affair that featured more than forty African artists on the line-up. The AFRIMMA 2016 concert took place at the Waterfront, Bar Beach, Victoria Island, in Lagos Nigeria. The concert was a free event. This made it the perfect promotional addition to the awards show that is all about Africa.
All AFRIMMA 2016 nominees were given a proper Lagos experience. In order to get a feel for the city, they were given guided tours of Eko Atlantic City, also known as the Eighth Wonder of the World. They also got to visit the Palace of the Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, which is located in Central Lagos, known as Iga Iduganran.
Another favourable tourist site in Lagos include Freedom Park, Broad Street, which is home to relics of the slave trade and the Nigerian struggle for independence.
The main event of AFRIMMA 2016 took place last night.
Thousands of guests flew in from all over the continent and other parts of the world to be a part of history. AFRIMMA 2016 was hosted at the Convention Centre of the Eko Hotels & Suites.
