92-year-old yoga master Madan Bali keeps young by raving
Madan Bali is a 92-year-old yoga master who attends music festivals.
The secret to staying young can be found on the dance floor.
When the 92-year-old yoga master isn’t in his studio helping people find their zen he can be found at a music festival dancing his heart out.
Bali, who founded the Yoga Bliss Studio in Montreal, Canada, dons a green Yoda hat topped by a bejewelled crown and paired with gold sunglasses at music festivals like the Igloo Festival in Montreal.
“Life is too short. I like to have a party. I like to enjoy and celebrate life and that’s what we’re here for,” he said.
It’s a family affair as his 44-year-old daughter Gita Bali also shares his zest for life, joining her dad whenever able.
Forever raver
Who says there’s an age limit to having fun on a dance floor?
Gita reveals that revellers jaws literally drop upon hearing who old dad actually is and that he has “celebrity status all the way at all the clubs. No line ups. Dad gets VIP instantly,” Miss India-Canada 1994 said of her father.
Although they attend music festivals, they don’t partake in drug taking but rather get high naturally.
“I feel the music is in my soul. I’m almost like in a trance-like experience; especially the drumbeat and the techno music, which has a beautiful rhythm in it. It really beats your heart out when you hear that,” he said.
Since immigrating to Canada from northern India 45 years ago, Bali opened a yoga studio, and introduced yoga in schools, colleges, community centres and corporations.
In addition to practising yoga and letting loose on dance floors, Bali says the key to staying young is all in the mind.
“Youth is not a time of life; it’s a state of the mind. That feeling is euphoric,” Bali said.
Next time you’re at a music festival look out for Madan Bali!
