A 747 aircraft is the biggest artcraft ever at Burning Man 2018
Burning Man 2018 is ready for take-off.
A two-story 747 aircraft is a fixture at this year’s Burning Man, currently taking place in Black Rock City, Nevada.
The project took creators four years to get the aircraft into a mobile art car that includes a bar and lounge. Yes, it’s mobile. The 20-ton artcraft can be towed around the playa, making it an official mutant vehicle.
Naturally people took to social media to both criticise and celebrate the feat. Some feel that the plane is unnecessary, indulgent and is exactly what people say makes Burning Man into an event full of excessive capitalism.
“I love Burning Man. And I hate this. It’s absurd,” Rayna Brachmann posted in a comment on Facebook. “And not in a good way. Ammunition for the folks who are down on the event for being a self-indulgent festival for tech bros with more money than sense.”
Fight or flight
Other burners celebrated the artcraft as a welcome sight:
“I thought it was great!” Patricia Brugioni commented on the Facebook Live. “Came across it on one of those oppressively hot days last year, and to come inside to the misters and fans, and dance in the midst of those, and to read all those heartfelt baggage tags and tickets, and write one of my own was truly a gift to a couple of us that day!”
The nature of festivals is self-indulgent, whether you spend a lot of money or not. At the end of the day it’s what you make for it, from it, of it.
What is the most indulgent experience you’ve had at a festival?
Burning Man 2018 takes off and fly’s into the stratosphere.
