<Dubstep> You can trust Ministry of Sound not to miss a beat when it comes to what’s happening and hot in terms of dance genres right now. If there was any doubt as to the rise of dubstep in popularity this new double disc compilation by the MOS crew certainly affirms the genre’s step into a more commercial realm. The discs are labelled ‘Fresh, funky and Futuristic (disc 1) and Deep, Dark and Dirty (disc 2). The second CD seems the more ‘dubsteppy’ as I understand the genre. CD 1 is a kind of ‘lighter side of’ bordering on funky breaks and electronica at times. Notably the tracks all seem to be exclusive to this compilation so if you’re either looking to dj some dubstep and are not familiar with the artists (like me) or just dig getting down to some filthy, dark, psychedelic basslines Adventures in Dubstep and Beyond Vol. 1 is not a bad starting point of reference at all. There are a couple of recognisable artists on the collection too such as Goldielocks vs. Benga, DJ Assault and Martyn amongst others I am sure the dubstep-headz may recognise. It’s also unmixed which is handy for DJ’s.
