Dean Fuel releases debut EP on new imprint SMAAK Music
SMAAK Music is DJ/Producer, Dean Fuel’s brand new label and the first release, ‘All In’, goes out on Friday, 19th June.
Dean is a prominent and massively popular Cape Town based artist who, before lockdown, could be found almost everywhere in South Africa playing to the masses.
From Ultra to Rage Festival and all the cool clubs in between, Fuel is without argument one of the busiest house DJs in South Africa and one of the few that has successfully turned his music passion into a full time occupation.
He has also been producing music for several years and it seems that now with SMAAK Music he intends to get serious about his own productions and hopefully also uncover some great new talent.
“I want it to be a home for my new music, as well as a platform for the music I love.
Dean says SMAAK Music is not his first foray into owning a label but that this time he’s a bit more serious about it.
“I had set up a very basic label a few years back to self-release some music I had co-written with a talented young singer, but had never really put any real effort or thought into what I was doing, so this time – I wanted to do it right!
“Getting to discover new talent, or work with artists I love will be an amazing adventure ahead!”
We really ‘smaak’ the name Dean…
“SMAAK is what you make of it: original, local, and (personally).
“I love the translation of it “to like, love, or be keen on (someone or something)” which is how I feel about great music!
I also wanted something that might have people questioning, guessing, or intrigued … and I also loved the fact that it gave the label a bit of local flavour (as it is an Afrikaans word)…”
SMAAK Music is certainly a great take on an original Afrikaans slang word.
What music style will SMAAK Music release?
SMAAK Music will include all things House, Tech and Progressive, – they’re calling it ‘an intercontinental palette of what is being called ‘Progressive Tech House’’.
Dean says, “The first release is coming up mid-June (Friday 19th June 2020) – and it will be a single from me, with three versions, aimed at DJ’s and streamers alike.
“Overall – the music I’m looking to release is what I feel I love to play as a DJ – bridging the worlds between House, Tech and Progressive dance music.
“I want it to be memorable, I want it to move people, and I want it to be well produced.”
Dean Fuel – All In: Out 19 June ‘20
‘All In’ is a fusion of euphoric vocals and emotive atmospherics and we’re told is a solid representation of the sound that Dean’s SMAAK Music plans to release.
It’s a Progressive and Tech House groover with a ‘captivating vocal hook and magnetic voice that leads the way to the momentous finale.’
Dean Fuel’s ‘All In’ will be available everywhere on June 19th 2020 via SMAAK MUSIC.
