In this epic tale of true fam musical comradery, brothers Sean and Kevin make up Sevenn, the Deep House purveyors who reside in Los Angeles, California.
With each brother having over 15 years of musical expertise from “orchestral avant-garde circus metal” to “progressive pry-trance” it’s more than safe to say they cover a large scope musically.
Their edit of BYOB has been played at probably every club/event since its release, and the story of its inception is a classic tale of having fun- as music should be!
They’ve played at major festivals around the world including Tomorrowland, Lollapalooza Brazil, Thailand’s BONE and Face Club in China AND now they are coming to South Africa to play at Eden Experience presents A State of Happiness.

First thing’s first, tell us about your name ‘SEVENN’. Who came up with it, what is the meaning behind it?
Sevenn: Funny thing actually, we were on the phone with Alok planning the release of ‘BYOB’, when at some point he asked us “What’s your DJ name?”, we both looked at each other and Kevin said “Sean, Kevin, Seven” and that was pretty much it! Obviously was impossible to find us as Seven on social media so we added the second “n” and voila!
You are a duo, more interestingly a brotherly duo. You make music together, tour together, perform together. What are the pros and cons of such an arrangement?
Sevenn: Well we have twelve brothers and sisters, so we’re pretty used to spending tons of time together, but musically it’s been awesome because we both come from different backgrounds. Kevin was making this crazy orchestral avant-garde circus metal while I was making progressive psy-trance and electro, so the mixture of production knowledge and musical insanity was beneficial in almost every way!
Artistically you experienced a swift rise to the top of the charts and cemented yourselves as an act to look out for. How do you stay grounded in the face of so much attention?
Sevenn: Actually, we’ve both been making music for upwards of 16 years each before we started Sevenn, so there really wasn’t anything swift about it! But if we had to answer I guess we’d say just stay focused, hard work and dedication always pays off no matter what, and for everything else we just hide in the studio hahaha!
Sevenn does a track using the classic BYOB line- A track that is played at almost every festival/event and even in the clubs. Did you anticipate such a reaction when you produced it?
Sevenn: No freaking way, absolutely not! We had just changed the studio computer and the acapela to BYOB was literally the only audio file on there, we added it as a pre-drop and sent it to Alok after a few too many beers and around an hour later he called us like “This is insane! Let’s release it together next week!”, and the song just exploded like we never thought was even possible!

You have collaborated with some of the biggest names in the music industry, namely Tiesto and Gucci Mane. What did you learn most from working with such established artists?
Sevenn: It was such an incredible honour to work with Tijs, he’s one of the most down to earth people in the industry and we were humbled to be given the opportunity, and Radric totally gave the track a makeover with his vocals. While at first, we had no idea what to expect when Tijs told us about Gucci Mane wanting to collaborate on it, we absolutely loved what he did, and we think it fit perfectly!
You’re playing at the Eden Experience on the 17th of November in sunny South Africa. What are your expectations of our party scene and what can the revellers expect from a Sevenn set?
Sevenn: We literally cannot wait, SA is one of our favourite crowds so far! You can definitely expect all the energy we have in us while we drop some of our classics as well as our new unreleased tracks and VIPs, we reckon y’all are in for a little something…
Tell our readers about these ‘VIPs’ you have regarding tracks.
Sevenn: Well because we play in so many different countries and since they all have specific styles, we like to make crazy edits and basically tailor our tracks for every gig we play. Most of the time these edits turn into our VIPs which we usually give away with our mashup packs just for fun, we love seeing our crowd’s reactions when they’re expecting the original but something new drops instead!
Despite having such a demanding tour and event schedule, are there any plans to release new tracks or maybe an album?
Sevenn: Of course! Kevin and I produce 95% of everything in airplanes and hotel rooms! We recently signed 4 new originals which will be released over the next few months, meanwhile we also have a few collaborations coming up but unfortunately, we can’t say with who or when they’ll be out just yet…
