Raising da Funds – for Bansi (GMS, 1200 Mics, Soundaholix)
Bansi is a dear friend of mine.
Every New Year we take a few days off and reflect on one’s life and on one’s mission. I think we all get carried away in our own dramas and get sucked into work and the routine of it all, and generally only lift our heads when we experience loss or something jolts us into awareness. As we march on forward into 2017 with big hopes and aspirations, it is in these moments we must stop and realise that time is moving fast and we MUST appreciate every minute.
Lately I have been personally overwhelmed by it all, this crazy thing we call life.
We fall in love and then the universe takes it away, leaving you feeling scarred yet wiser, and how hard it is to give gratitude for that lesson in the moment, yet upon reflection we understand it all, and how sometimes it’s not necessarily anyone’s fault, just a lesson, and to release it and hold on tight to the memory in the same breath, not allowing yourself to fall into self-doubt and only give love back, its fucking exhausting.
I have come to believe that life is made up of moments. We create such hype for any event and then work really hard for just that one moment… and then it’s over…
I have been feeling this in a big way lately. I’ve personally been DJing for 15 years now, and I still hold onto every gig, every crowd scream, every road I travel to get there and all those special moments, which are gone in a flash. I stress to myself to stop and take it all in but I can tell you straight away that it can sometimes bring me to tears, because of the immense power and energy I feel deep inside and the love I have for our psy scene and how precious every moment is when we all come together.
Every party, every festival,, even the shit ones, it’s all relative at the end of the day and to stop being a TOOL… be grateful, no matter where you are at.
Now why am I getting so deep and philosophical on you – is because life is so hectic lately and we as a psy family are being faced with a reality, and we need to come together for a friend.
Bansi needs our help
Some of you may already have seen on Facebook that one of THE MOST respected producers in our global psy scene, Bansi, has taken ill with a rare form of blood cancer and we are all clubbing together as a family should to help him get through this.
The one thing I love the most about the psy trance music industry, is how we all pull together when one of our brothers (or sisters) are in need.
For you new kids in the scene, Bansi is one half of the act Growling Mad Scientists (GMS), also 1200 Micrograms, Soundaholix and as Riktam & Bansi. Riktam is his long time friends and music writing partner.
Riktam and Bansi under their various aliases have helped shape our industry and have inspired all psy producers some way or another. It was their music that turned a lot of us onto psytrance as their sound spread and they have maintained this for over 25 years now.
Still to this day they rock dancefloors across the globe.
I remember I started mixing with GMS tracks, and I can tell you from personal experience what a legend this human is; Bansi is so giving to others and is always smiling and telling jokes and putting others before himself, to the extent of his own detriment. You may think you don’t know him, but I can guarantee you, you have lost your shit on the dance floor to his music over the years.
Now it’s our turn to show Bansi gratitude and the love he has shown us;
Love and support is one thing, but we got to deal with dem bills, so open your hearts and your wallet, and go support the cause. (Please see links below).
All around the world, the psy community is pulling together and we are doing what we do best, and that is to party!!!
Already fundraising events are popping up in Brazil, Israel, Portugal and many more, so we are going to show the love from Cape Town!!!
Some of our finest DJs are coming together as we host a club night to raise some funds and awareness to helping Bansi through this ordeal.
