Having your Facebook Page Hacked
Having your Facebook page hacked is not a joke!
This happened to me recently. Here’s what happened…
My day started with my usual browse through the news feeds with my morning coffee, but this day my Facebook profile asked me to change my password because someone was trying to do it for me somewhere in Amsterdam, so I did what any of us would do… and I changed my password.
This happened about 10 times, each time getting progressively worse, ultimately ending in my whole profile being taken over.
At first I didn’t understand what was going on, how could this happen to me?
This happens to other people! I was being hacked! My whole social profile was being over taken, I wasn’t alone anymore, and someone else was inside my shit!
First my cover photo was changed, then my profile photo.
I would delete any changes made by the hack, this literally made it worse, as if every time I clicked, it would allow the hackers to gain more control.
The hacker would then join my profile to Arab groups and friend request Arab friends and then the final blow came with a whole profile take over, my username, my cell phone number changed to a foreign number and my personal favourite, a big FAK YOU, written on my profile accompanied by a flaming middle finger!!!!!
I can’t tell the stress of it all, I felt sick.
If I didn’t use Facebook for my promotion and management of my DJ career, I would have just let it go. But alas in our line of work, Facebook is a great platform in social media, allowing us to create our own promotion.
Having one’s Facebook page hacked is one thing; trying to get it back into your own name is anther ordeal all together…
So what did I do?
I had to send out a Whatsapp message to all my contacts warning them of what was going on, on my profile, as at that stage I was properly kicked out of my profile, and some Arabic name had taken over, that was that!
It deleted my photo albums of my tours over the past few years, as well as photographs that I was tagged in, photographs that hold memories and are important to me on an emotional level, actual traveling and adventures. I asked my friends to go on my profile and report it and I managed to get it shut down and then Facebook stepped in and somehow I managed to change my personal profile page back.
Now I don’t think it was some Arab terrorist group or anything. I just think it was made to look that way, although I did stress because I was imagining the FBI arresting me at the airport or something equally harrowing.
I think it was an attack on Facebook itself, but obviously we as the public will never know the truth, maybe Facebook let it happen, making us tighten our security or do something to benefit them.
Who knows anything nowadays.
As I write this though, this Facebook page hack has still left me with without access to my actual DJ page, as I was the only admin who could control it.
Now please don’t say ‘well contact Facebook’ because it’s easier to contact Father Christmas and have a chat to him or speak to GOD than actually communicate with a human being at Facebook!
It’s as if Facebook doesn’t give a flying shit about you! I hope I can be proved wrong and by some miracle I get help and get back to managing my page (which I have had for 10 years now).
Let’s just say I know my way around Facebook automated help manual.
I have Googled and taken advice from friends, but alas I am still without help to get my DJ TUNE RAIDER Page back.
Hollywood glamorises hackers, with movies and series like the early 90s movie Hackers, or Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and I Robot. Those Hackers are considered cool because they’re out to mess with the powers that be, but with my personal experience like this one, it is just annoying and a waste of time.
So a Big FU to those behind my Facebook page hack!!!
Our info is out there…
So how much of our personal information is out there because we offer it willingly through our social media sites, and how much do we take for granted?
It’s all very well that we post our lives on the web to share with our friends, but how easy is it for hackers to break in and ruin your life?
We watch these conspiracy films about how the government or organisations are watching us, and how easy it is to get totally screwed over?
I won’t lie, I am paranoid AF nowadays.
I have gone as far as putting tape over my webcam, as I can’t wait for some creep to watch me get naked in my room and film me or something….
These threats are real, so be careful my friends.
Change those passwords, make sure you have a close friend as your backup admin on your “page,” clue yourself up on how to protect yourself, because the interweb is huge, and what do we really know about any of it, anyway?
Having my Facebook page hacked had left me rethinking a lot of things!
PS: if anybody has any advice on how to get my DJ page back, I’d love to hear your thoughts.
