At only 17, Martin Garrix is not only setting the world on fire (with over 158 million views on his ‘Animals’ song alone), he’s also good friends with Tiësto. Jealous? You have all the reason to be. This kid is going places and exceeding expectations.

While many people your age stress about exams, you’re killing it with massive numbers on social media, Beatport and (most impressively) YouTube. Are you worried that your next step won’t be as successful?
MARTIN GARRIX: It keeps me motivated to keep levelling that standard. But I’m not really worried; I have so much cool stuff I’m about to release!
“My first and biggest inspiration is Tiësto, he turned out to be a good friend as well. I have a lot of respect for his work positive personality!”
If your recently released edit of Bassjackers’ ‘Crackin’ is anything to go by, success won’t be stopping soon – it’s already sitting at #3 on Beatport and one million views on YouTube. Do you plan on dropping an album soon?
MARTIN GARRIX: Not soon, but I hope in the future I will…
French favourite David Guetta recently told MTV UK he’s delighted to see so many young faces topping the EDM charts. He mentioned you by name. Who do you look up to for inspiration?

As a young pioneering DJ and producer hailing from the holy land of dance music, Holland, what do you think needs to be discussed at the forthcoming Amsterdam Dance Event later this year?
MARTIN GARRIX: Good music !
You’re currently jet set on your first American tour; with ‘Animals’ making waves in the lower reaches of the American Hot 100, what are your expectations?
MARTIN GARRIX: I am very excited for this tour. Playing all the great clubs and festivals – it really is a dream coming true! I did a press trip in New York City in December that went very well, so I’m not worried at all. Can’t wait to hit America!
Speaking of which, did you watch the Grammy Awards? Do you agree Daft Punk deserved the accolade they received?
MARTIN GARRIX: It’s sick right! But I have a lot of respect for them; they’re real pioneers when it comes to create the coolest music.
Lastly, your #WEAREANIMALS top ten countdown has been making all the rage on your YouTube channel. What has been your all-time personal favourite entry?
MARTIN GARRIX: I don’t have one favourite. There are too many cool entries!
A special thanks to Just Music.
