You’ve never been to South Africa before, how does it feel coming to SA on the Smirnoff Nightlife Exchange to represent German music and culture?
It feels very exciting indeed to be going there!
You have a house in Berlin where you stay when you travel Europe, do you still have much of a connection to Germany?
A commercial connection to Germany specifically, not really. A commercial connection to Europe, definitely (in as much as I DJ at so many events there)! To me my house in Germany is more about a cultural connection; that’s an immensely valuable thing to me.
Speaking relatively; yes. I have a connection to Ibiza, but I don’t think anymore so than a couple of hundred other DJs. Amnesia is right up there in terms of clubs I look forward to playing – it’s an incredible nightclub. I think my special connection is more to electronic dance music and DJing as a whole though.
What are some of your favourite elements of German culture: food, music, fashion etc
My favourite fashion designers are all American, so I don’t think it would be that. The other two though, it’s hard to know where to begin. Food, well ask any person who’s lived there where the best food is and I’ll give you odds on they’ll say: Germany! The flavours and smells kind of suck you in and stay in your mind and get into your system – very addictive! With regards to music, well its where trance was born, so I’d have to say that was a favourite part of it. In other regards I think the architecture and scenery across Germany is particularly beautiful. I recently cancelled a flight back to Berlin from Prague so I could take the train instead. Those two aspects hit me all over again during the trip.
Well I released my third artist album, ‘Do You Dream?’ in June and I’m definitely going to be bringing a lot of that music to the turntables when I play in SA. We’ve just released the forth single from it ‘Rain’, which has been getting a huge amount of radio play. Into next year there will be a remixes edition of the album and I’ll be releasing the follow-up album to my main pseudonym side-project.
