Just Mo returns as YFM resurrects popular House Music show
YFM presents…
By way of this article I would like to inform you that I, and thousands of other Deep House heads, can no longer avail ourselves for whatever Friday night commitments we had been fulfilling for the past two years.
Yes that’s right…after a two year hiatus from radio Just Mo returned to the airwaves recently, to present The Warehouse, a show celebrating niche House Music offerings.
This welcome return has effectively rearranged T.G.I.F arrangements for the House Music faithful, as all week long they anticipate tuning in to YFM every Friday night between 10pm and 2am.
Broadcasting live from YFM’S Hyde Park studios, Just Mo alongside co-host Josi Chave serve up the finest in Deep and Soulful House Music selections.
Josi is no stranger to the show as he was part of the original The Warehouse trio from back in 2012.
This comprised himself, DJ Ankletap and of course Just Mo.
” Josi’ been in the game for a while with well over 10 years of experience which is exactly what he is bringing to the show along with his crazy mixing skills and bubbly personality.
“He is just the prefect match to host the show with me no doubt,” says Just Mo of his seasoned co-host.
Just Mo’s previous shows were synonymous with exclusive, well selected music and gems from the underground.
The DJ/Producer reassures listeners that the niceness remains the same with a dash of extra time added.
“This time round we are going at it for four instead of our previous two hours which is something great for us and the audience,” an excited Just Mo says.
An avid record crate-digger, Just Mo says that he scours for music on online outlets like Traxsource and Beatport as well as hits up labels directly to secure current content.
“We are digging deeper and working harder to get more exclusives and mixes from some of SA’s hottest DJs and producers,” he says.
The Warehouse was a legendary nightclub established in Chicago in the formative House Music era of the late seventies.
It is regarded as the “birthplace of House Music” where interestingly enough it’s first Musical Director is reputed to have been the iconic Frankie Knuckles.
Coincidence that an exclusive House Music radio show shares the same name as the revered yesteryear venue that specialised in the genre?
Of course not.
“The show is definitely named after the famous night club in Chicago.
“Like you said that’s where it all started for House Music and the show is basically where my career in radio also started, so yeah the name was just fitting for the show,” Just Mo reveals.
The menu for The Warehouse looks some thing like this…
Appetizer
Between 10-11pm a vocal mix opens up the show followed by an underground or Deep House mix.
Main Course
At 11pm until 11:45pm the Local Mix precedes the ‘Warehouse Selektion‘ where two tracks, one chosen by Just Mo and the other by Josi, go back-to-back against each other. Midnight ushers in the popular Classic Mix segment, which runs for an hour.
Dessert
The Club Mix closes off the show.
“That’s where things get a little dirty, we either feature our guest DJ/Producer for and hour or we get the people dancing with club hits until the end of the show,” Just Mo says about the “lose it on the dance floor” segment.
DJs and Producers can also get into the action by submitting their music to either of the two presenters.
Just Mo shares that he hasn’t been twiddling his thumbs during his sabbatical from radio.
On radio.
“I have been focusing on my label, releasing music, videos and finding other young artists to push.
“I have also been working on my career as an artist and pushing brand and basically just traveling and taking a bit of time out away from everything.
“But I’m back now so watch out!” the House Music artisan warns good-naturedly.
Tune in
