I believe in the motto, “If you love what you do you will never work a day in your life”. I also believe in people and their abilities. Through good leadership we have created an enormous passion towards our brand. Full time G&G employees are highly passionate about what they do. Our office is awesome and a lot of fun as well. I also wake up really early now days and have an awesome team assisting me.
2. How did you go about selecting a line-up for the Durban July After party?
I am very passionate about dance music and DJ-ing and sometimes passion can lead you into making unclear decisions which isn’t right for business meaning the business of selling tickets.
I try to combine this passion with realistic thinking. It is important to for G&G Productions to provide the masses with well-known popular DJ’s. At the same time I take it upon myself to introduce at least one or two more underground, non-commercial or even new talents.
Through rock solid sound systems, the latest in technology concerning; audio visual, stage design, dance floor design, programming , the general layout of our event and the way in which our events are received and attended we are very seldom turned down when making a request in booking South Africa’s best. Often DJs juggle their calendars to play at a G&G Productions event
This year I am actually doing some planning around my DJ set and not only from a music point of view. I will play alongside a visual DJ who can actually scratch graphics while I am DJ-ing at the same time. My DJ set will be more of a showcase than just a DJ set. The music style will be ‘Progressive Trance’ only. The rest is a surprise.
4. How will this year’s Durban July After party different from the previous years?
Every year we innovate. With Vodacom 4U as a headline sponsor this year we have been able to allocate more spend to the event. Extra money is only being allocated to designing the best dance floor South Africa has ever seen. To give you small insight: Live visual mapping, over 60 screens throughout the event including LED, Plasma and Projections. Two full liner ray Funktion 1 Sound systems, an extra dance floor, motorized staging, trussing and pyrotechnics.
Haha… at sixteen my only ambition was to play music to people. I soon realized that my ambition soon outweighed my talents and I wanted to be the person fully in control of the event. Including but not limited to; how the event is packaged, promoted, sold and staged.
When I put my mind to something I do not stop until I have achieved my goal whether it is short term or long term. The objective never really was to grow G&G Productions into what it is today. Again through amazing love for the brand, our energy, attention to detail, innovation and understanding how to best package an event for the masses as well as our sponsors I think things have just evolved. So to summarize I think my vision just equals evolution.
6. If fans wanted to treat you to a drink on the night (just to say thanks for the raving party). What would they have to send you?
Ice Tea, I don’t drink
