Your real name is Benjamin Beyer, and you reside in Germany. Why did you choose the moniker ‘David Puentez’ as your stage persona?
David Puentez: Puente means bridge/connecting piece in Spanish, and as a DJ you are the bridge between music & the crowd.
You’re playing a set at Tremor Music Festival in Pretoria on August 18, your maiden voyage to South Africa. What are you expecting from our country and what can we expect from you?
David Puentez: Good food, amazing nature and a great party crowd!! You can expect a very tight set with goosebump moments! 🙂
You’ve done a lot of edits/remixes of tracks by the best in the industry. What is the allure behind re-creating existing tracks and putting your unique twist on them?
David Puentez: Yes, for example, Drake – Gods Plan. I heard it on the radio, loved it, but didn’t find any remixes online to play in my sets. That’s why I decided to make my own edit, and I got so much good feedback on that one – it’s crazy. Giving radio friendly tunes a more ‘clubby’ feel, is so much fun and gets you a lot of exposure!
I just finished a remix for Tiësto, Dzeko, Preme & Post Malone‘s latest smash ‚ Jackie Chan’ will be out soon!!!”
Dance music has definitely left the underground and seems to be sky-rocketing infinitely. Where do you see the industry in 10 years?
David Puentez: 10 years, mmm. Don’t know; the industry changes so fast, micro genre trends come and go. At the end it’s about having a good time at a club or festival with your favourite artists.
You’ve garnered major success throughout your career, playing at major festivals, helming spectacular residencies, receiving praise from industry titans and bashing out chart topping hits. What has been the highlight of your career thus far?
David Puentez: This year I got my first #1 record in Germany 🇩🇪 with No Matter What! That was a dream come true and now it’s all over the radio, couldn’t be happier. Last year I made an official remix for my idols Axwell / Ingrosso, have to put it on the list as well. 🙂
What is the first thing you do when you wake up?
David Puentez: Look on my phone! 😃
What is your production process and what is your favourite part of a track?
David Puentez: Always different – it depends if it is a remix or original; most of the time I start with a good groove.
What is your life’s motto?
David Puentez: Eat desserts first!
What do you have in store for fans this year; any releases, tours or news you’d like to share.
David Puentez: I just finished a remix for Tiësto, Dzeko, Preme & Post Malone‘s latest smash ‚ Jackie Chan’ will be out soon!!!
