Call-A-Pizza needs your help on GoGetFunding
Call-A-Pizza is something of an institution in Sea Point, Cape Town.
Owners Ricky Sidelsky and Yolanda Chambers have owned Call-A-Pizza for over 18 years now having bought it back in 1998. It was originally opened in 1987 so this is a 30 year old establishment at the end of Sea Point.
But as avid psytrance lovers, when Ricky and Yolanda took over they transformed the place into more than just a pizza restaurant. They decided to dedicate their business to their biggest passion (aside from pizza).
Psytrance.
Anybody who knows Ricky and Yolanda will vouch for their absolute love for the genre and the scene. There was a time when they would not miss a single party. In fact Ricky took immense pride in showing face and notching up another event on his trance-belt.
But like clockwork they’d be open for business again every Sunday evening at 5 PM no matter how good the weekend party was.
More than just Pizza
When you visit Call-A-Pizza you will be left in no doubt as to where their passion lies.
First off the music and videos; Ricky loves to roll old trance party videos and if that’s not happening there will be psy blasting through the speakers anyway!
Call-A-Pizza also sells tickets to all the events and anybody who still prints fliers knows that this is one joint (excuse the pun) that you have to drop them off at.
Their pizzas are generously smothered in toppings and their delivery service on point. A charming touch has always been their menu which has a selection of pizzas named after event promoters and some local and international DJs.
Back in the day when Skazi was king and not nearly as cheesy as Call-A-Pizza pizzas, he used to pop in there for a visit and to eat the Skazi pizza.
Ricky has also written several articles on psytrance for both local and international publications, always promoting the scene as positively as possible.
Help needed
Globally psytrance continues to grow and locally it’s pretty massive too, quite possibly the single biggest underground music scene in the mother city.
One of the key reasons why the scene remains so strong and popular is that the custodians of psytrance in Cape Town – the people that have been in this scene for many, many years and I include the wonderful Ricky and Yolanda in that group – have stayed true and loyal to the scene doing whatever they can to sustain it.
Ricky and Yolanda don’t just feed hungry tranceheads; they use Call-A-Pizza in every possible way to help this scene they love so much.
Now is the time to help them.
Victims of fraud, they are struggling to pay back the debt they have incurred and a small donation by all of us could set them right very quickly.
Simply follow this link, read the info and offer whatever you can. Let’s get Call-A-Pizza back on their feet!
This is what separates psytrance from most other scenes. We care and we are prepared to help others!
Another way to help
Aside from the GoGetFunding site where you can donate whatever you can afford, the good people at Spectrum and Psyked in the City are hosting a fundraiser to raise cash for the awesome couple.
In true Ricky style the music will be FAST, just the way he likes it and Ricky Mad Hatter will be playing too. We’re talking 145 BPM starting and ending around 200 BPM.
You can check out the Spectrum: The Leaning Tower of Pizza event here.
