Adana Twins chat before their gig at TRUTH, Joburg
Adana Twins joins the combined forces of ‘Take it Easy’ and ‘Friso’ to create a deep techno act straight out of the Hamburg scene. They will be playing at TRUTH in JHB Tuesday, 8 August 2017 for a night to remember.
Adana Twins consists of ‘Take it Easy’ and ‘Friso.’ What made you guys decide to join forces? How did it come about?
About 12 years ago, we studied together here in Hamburg and started our career by promoting parties in different venues. After a while we became residents in bigger clubs and played alongside many amazing DJs and live acts. Those times still influence us a lot. Promoting and playing warm ups was a good preparation of what was still to come.
Tracks like ‘Everyday’ and ‘Strange’ have received major airplay from industry greats like Pete Tong and Lamb + Wolf. Solomun has also been playing ‘Uncompromising’ in every set of his for the past month. How does that feel as Producers?
Adana Twins: It is always very nice if you get attention from colleagues. Most of our music is made for the club right now and it’s even more important if the crowd likes your tracks.
How has your ‘ALLNIIGHT’ event series shaped your production and musical journey? I mean playing a variety of tempos and styles at different times throughout the night has surely led to serious musical evolution.
Adana Twins: Back in the days we started playing in a small bar here in Hamburg every Saturday for around 8 hours. Playing the entire night is where we came from and I think it was maybe the best learning experience we could get. You have the opportunity to take the crowd on a journey and play something they wouldn’t expect. You have time… sometimes the crowd has to wait a bit before everyone can go crazy, but therefore we can go on a really nice and long trip together. I guess you have a better connection to the people during those nights.
Adana Twins has recently joined the Watergate Records family. How has the journey been in terms of learning about the industry as well as artistic growth and support?
Adana Twins: Watergate is really important to us. We are huge fans of the club since the day it opened its doors and we had some of our best nights at this wonderful place. Their program totally fits our style; credible but still true-to-life. Same goes for the label, they only release quality music! Being able to work together with them is a personal milestone of our musical career.
You will be playing a gig at MASSIVE night club, Truth in Johannesburg on the 8th of August. Have you been to S.A before? What are you hoping to experience gig-wise as well as sight-seeing, if you even have time to?
Adana Twins: It is the first time in S.A. for me (Friso) and I am really looking forward to it. I hope I will find time to experience this beautiful country… I am totally open for recommendations!
What releases can we look forward to from you guys in the coming months of 2017?
Adana Twins: We have a new track called ‘Zuul’ which will be released on the Watergate 15th Years compilation in October. The track has already received attention from Tale of Us and Solomun. They’ve been playing it since a few weeks. We also finished a remix for our friends from WhoMadeWho but there is no release date yet.
Germany is the capital of electronic music, especially techno. Why do you think this is? Is there more competitiveness or friendship in the scene there?
Adana Twins: I think it has a lot to do with the long tradition of electronic music. It already started in the 60’s & 70’s… until all the nice productions and clubs of the 80’s and 90’s. There were different crews at different times coming up with new big things. Berlin, Frankfurt, Düsseldorf, Munich, Cologne or Hamburg have frequently been hubs of new and different styles and tendencies. We’re very happy to be a part of this!
