Kid Fonque talks #2SIDESOFTHEBEAT
Since its inception in August 2011, Kid Fonque’s long-running monthly night #2SIDESOFTHEBEAT has brought a wide range of musical styles to the stage and dancefloor. The Soul Candi label boss, producer and DJ has thrived in his role as party-planner and he has carved a niche for his brand by bringing different styles and crowds together at his events.
Over the last 4 years he’s made a point of putting both legends and newcomers on the stage. He took some time to talk us through some of his favourite #2SIDESOFTHEBEAT acts over the years…
Rich Medina (USA)
Kid Fonque: “Being such a fan it was an honour to host Rich [at #2SIDESOFTHEBEAT], his set was a serious history lesson in music.”
Zaki Ibrahim
Kid Fonque: “We had Zaki on [at #2SIDESOFTHEBEAT] before we collaborated on our single ‘Be’ with DJ Whisky. She is phenomenal talent. I’m a huge fan of her work, the Bjork of SA.”
Track: Kid Fonque and DJ Whiskey feat. Zaki Ibrahim
DJ Kenzhero
Kid Fonque: “We have both been in this music game for a long time and have lots of respect for each other, I think we will grow old doing parties together. Kenzhero is great DJ who knows what to play and when!”
Jullian Gomes
Kid Fonque: “Jullian is a good friend and has done his rounds at #2SIDESOFTHEBEAT. Mr Gomes always creates a sweat pit when he plays for us. Without a doubt one of the nicest people in the industry and an amazing producer too.”
Okmalumkoolkat
Kid Fonque: “Still such a fan of his, he has performed twice for us, once after his LV collab and then again late last year. If you listen carefully to the track we did together ‘Usangikhumbula’ he raps about being at #2sidesofthebeat! Future SA raps, nuff said!”

Kid Fonque: “What a dream to have hosted Dego from the legendary 4-Hero! His set is exactly what we wanted to hear. Hope to have him again.”
MdCL (NZ)
Kid Fonque: “What an amazing experience seeing Mark live, watch the video on 2sidesofthebeat.co.za, we have become close friends and do a lot of work musically, hopefully will have him back in the near future.”
Jonny Miller (UK)
Kid Fonque: “One of my closest friends and helped me with some of the live performances at the early stages of #2sidesofthebeat. Brilliant producer, great DJ and lovely guy who I can share tea and biscuits with.”
