RMX-1000 for iPad launched by Pioneer DJ
The RMX-1000 for iPad was announced by Pioneer DJ last week and will cost $19.99/£14.99 (R 275.00) to buy on the iTunes App store.
Our first knew-jerk reaction was to consider how one could connect your iPad to the DJ mixer and use the RMX-1000 for iPad app just like the conventional RMX-1000. But alas, this would probably all but kill production of the actual unit. Plus we’re not even sure it’d be possible to do this with the current technology available.
Nevertheless the RMX-1000 for iPad is a pretty rad new app for iPad music makers as it is compatible with Garageband, and can be linked to the Audiobus app and Inter-App Audio which means you are able to ad FX to music you’ve made on your iPad. You can, of course, straight after downloading use the RMX-1000 for iPad to add FX to tunes from your iTunes library.
The RMX-1000 was originally launched in 2012 – you can read our review on it – we were pretty impressed, except with the price because like with most Pioneer DJ gear, it ain’t cheap, but also, as with all Pioneer DJ gear, the RMX-1000 is a top notch DJ tool for effecting your music in weird and wonderful ways.
So whilst the original RMX-1000 was aimed squarely at DJs it seems like the RMX-1000 for iPad at stage is more as production tool for those making music on their iPad.
Now if it could be used in conjunction with Traktor DJ (NI’s iPad version of Traktor Pro 2) that would be something but since Pioneer recently released their own Rekordbox DJ software, I guess we’ll just need to wait for the iPad version of this.
Here’s a features list for RMX-1000 for iPad…
The four FX areas on the RMX-1000 for iPad mirror the layout of the original RMX-1000, for intuitive, tactile control.
Build up and break down tracks by combining ten types of FX – and manipulate the wet/dry, time and resonance parameters for even more character.
Alter the rhythm and timbre of the music by adjusting the Hi/Mid/Low frequencies, and add three types of FX: Cut/Add, Trans/Roll and Gate/Drive.
Trigger pre-assigned samples in time with the BPM and use the X-PAD to repeat samples at different speeds. Kick, Snare, Clap and Hi-hat are pre-assigned, or producers can customise using other on-board samples.
Elegantly exit complex FX combinations and return to the original track using Back Spin, Vinyl Brake and Echo – or return to the music instantly.
Plus, the parameters of many of the FX can be customised so you can create unique sounds and experiment with your own style.
