Cakewalk Momentum is an app that lets you sync song ideas across devices
Keep your song ideas safe with Cakewalk Momentum.
Cakewalk takes the term ‘a walk in the park’ to an aurally tasty cloud-like new level.
As most musicians and producers know, time, or the lack thereof, is a major hurdle in making music. Cakewalk, who helmed the Sonar DAW wishes to solve this issue by creating an app that will allow you to work on tracks from mobile phone to desktop.
Thus they bring forth Momentum, an app that uses a cloud subscription to keep your ideas synced across mobile and desktop devices.
Momentum comes in as a plugin for both desktop (Mac, Windows, VST/AU/AAX) and a mobile app (iOS and Android.)
Keep that Momentum going
Cakewalk Momentum utilizes a very simple four-track layout, allowing you to record your ideas into the app either by using your phone’s built-in microphone or an external device.
Anything you record is saved onto a cloud service for later contemplation.
With the increase vulnerability of storage, having cloud functionality is the best feature one can have.
With Momentum you can load your ideas in the desktop plugin, then drag and drop your sounds into any DAW for adding to a larger project- This is perfect for Producers on the move (which, let’s face it they always are.)
The only downside is that you can’t use the app with iCloud, Dropbox or any other existing cloud service.
Instead, users will have to link up to Sonar’s “Ideaspace” service, going for between $2.99 and $9.99/month, plan dependent.
Another noteworthy aspect is that although it has editing and looping controls alongside effects, it doesn’t have any built-in instruments.
In reality it’s just a device for recording audio, making it more of a four-track tape recorder than a mini studio. This is still perfect for Producers who have ideas they would like to save without needing to break out the ol’ laptop.
