Spoek is back with a brand new Beat Code….that’s Mzansi for sure
What’s even more exciting is that it is accompanied by a smashing single called ‘I Found You.’ If this is a taste of the sound he has cooked up, your ears are in for an auditory treat.
Spoek Mathambo is an absolute vanguard regarding electronic music in South Africa and abroad. Along with producing he can also add filmmaking, rapping and in our opinion ‘fashion icon’ to his repertoire. He even won the Young Director award at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity in 2010 for his cover of Joy Division’s ‘She’s Lost Control.’
Spoek has most certainly not been lying dormant for the past few years. One of the most amazing projects he has produced is a documentary made in collaboration with Lebogang Rasethaba about the development of electronic music in South Africa. They take a deeper look at the sonic evolution which has shaped Durban, Cape Town and Atteridgeville (Pretoria). If you are in any way interested in electronic music or even the inner workings of township flavours this documentary is a must-see.
He also fused with Aero Manyelo to create a project known as “Batuk.” They released an EP called “Daniel” in 2016 and are currently on a European tour showcasing South African Afro Electronica which, by the way, rival’s European house/techno.
People overseas lose their marbles to these ‘Kwaito electronic’ sounds and it’s completely understandable.

If you listen to the single “I Found You” from his upcoming album ‘Mzansi Beat Code’ you can hear the maturity that has taken place over the years.
The sound is more Afro techno than house, further validating his ability to fuse any and all genre’s and sounds to bring the freshest of beats. The production quality is top notch and very much on par with the best that the international market has to offer.
His music is sure to unlock a proudly South African beat in your genetic code!
