Before making the transition as a full time professional producer and DJ, Irish born electronica and techno spinner Max Cooper first received a Ph.D. in genetics in 2008 from Nottingham University. Not a likely mix of two professions, but the science is said to have influenced his music heavily.
Cooper is known for the melody and emotion of his music, as well as his live performance. He is a go-to remixer for labels like Herzblut and Bedrock as well as artists and bands such as Agoria, Romboy, Bodzin, Halls, MMOTHS and BRAIDS. He has a way of approaching different styles, instruments, IDMs and feelings and bridging it where it seems impossible. From glitch experimental to orchestral composers, techno and electro, to turntables and hip hop. Cooper has touched it all.
Often encouraging his fans to produce their graphic take on his music; he is also involved with animation filmmakers like Nick Cobby (UK), Whiskas fX (FR) and Cedric De Smedt (FR) who have done experimental animations for his tracks.
In the last few years he has earned some heavyweight titles and played and produced for festivals, films and fans all over the globe. 2011 saw him be a Resident Advisor Top 100 DJ; in 2012 he was named one of Resident Advisor’s top 20 live acts as well as a Beatport top 10 artist and one of XLR8R’s 10 most popular podcasts and single downloads and two most-popular videos.
And club, situated below The Alexander Theatre in Braamfontein, was transformed from an empty, dusty basement into a world-class dance club that aims to expose Joburg to the best national and international electronic music talent on offer. The floating bubble Void Acoustics Air Motion System that resonates on the floor is the first of its kind in South Africa and an experience by itself.[/one_half] [one_half last=”yes”]
