De Mogul is making waves with ‘Oe Batla Kae’ a house music anthem
As someone who started music as a hobby, De Mogul is on the rise.
27 year-old Tsepho ‘Mogul’ Rangaka started dabbling in music as a DJ because of his friends, the boys, after matriculating in Mahikeng, North West.
It was during his second year at University that he developed a thirst for music production, so he taught himself by watching videos on YouTube.
After dropping out of his media studies degree due to financial issues he decided to devote himself to the craft that is music.
Rangaka sent one of his tracks to DJ Ganyani, who invited him to the City of Gold, Jozi, Joburg.
Mogul was signed to Ganyani Entertainment and worked on Ganyani’s ‘House Groove 9.’
This move was what made him realize the possibilities he could reach through music and its viability as a career path.
While partying in Soweto, he frequently heard people shout “oe batla kae.’
De Mogul then did research to find the meaning of the phrase, asking people what it meant.
The meaning is that they want the song to hit them on their backs – we all know that feeling.
This inspired him to produce the track ‘Oe Batla Kae,’ his first commercial song, which features Ms Mo and Makhensa.
The track is a banger, making waves across South Africa and needless to say, he is working on an album to be released in 2018.
