Black Motion to make waves in the New York ocean
South African dynamic duo, Black Motion, is taking their rhythm to the US this weekend for the Afropunk Festival.
The Afropunk festival has been around for 14 years as it celebrates the Afropunk movement, and has been staged in cities like Paris, London and Atlanta.
Their manifesto reads:
“AFROPUNK is defining culture by the collective creative actions of the individual and the group. It is a safe place, a blank space to freak out in, to construct a new reality, to live your life as you see fit, while making sense of the world around you.”
It is so fitting that our men in Motion join the festivities and provide that authentic African rhythm, using decks and drums along with their energetic dance moves to bring their performance to life.
Africa will be there in full force as another local dynamo; DJ Maphorisa joins the line-up.
TIA in NY
TV personality Nandi Madida will make history as the first African to host the Brooklyn leg of the event as she will master the ceremonies on the Green Stage at the Commodore Barry Park.
Maphorisa, who has been spinning several decks in the US, is set to thrill fans with his beats.
He has produced for the likes of Jason Derulo, Major Lazer and Trey Songz and was behind some of the hits from Nigeria’s Wizkid and Davido and Black Coffee, among others. .
There’s no doubt that our South African gems Black Motion, DJ Maphorisa and Nandi Madida will wow the Afropunk festival in Brooklyn.
