It’s the enthusiasm to hang out at the studio and contribute wherever he can that has resulted in Mey’s success with Emerson Todd. He has a sense of vocal musicality that I can only compare to the likes of Zaki Ibrahim or Crosby, some of the other studio regulars. An honest and pragmatic love of soul music combined with an intuitive sense of house and techno’s dancefloor rhythms, Mey is an asset to any club track. That is why Ivan chose to work with him on an upcoming project; the two have been crafting a sound that is genre-free and embraces the sensibilities of popular music in a way that is authentic and free of ‘hit-making’ baggage’. It’s soulful electronica at its best and when complete will surely raise eyebrows.
